After 5 years of Free Up celebrating Dancehall, Reggae and Soca at 2 different clubs we are sadly closing the doors on this legendary weekly party. Free Up first started at Shine Night Club where Neal Loud created the concept and promoted the party for 4 years. After stepping back from the promotions scene, Neal passed the party on to Free Up's DJs and the night moved to Republic where it has been for the past 8 months. Countless guest djs have selected for us as well as many artists having performed and we'd like to thank them and everyone of you who has ever come out and enjoyed the night with us.

The LAST episode of FREE UP goes down tomorrow at Republic and we would love for you to be there. The guestlist is already pakd but we can still hook you up so get at me quick if you would like to attend for FREE @djarems.

FREE UP WEDNESDAYS at REPUBLIC Welcomes DJ Smoky (One Blood Sound/Oakland) March 14, 2012

This Wednesday, March 14th, FREE UP is pleased to present Oakland California's own - DJ Smoky of One Blood Sound. A veteran sound clash and dancehall juggler Smoky is guaranteed to tear down the party and nice up the dance along side resident DJ's Rexx, Hoppa, Chizzle and myself. Expect huge dubplates and nothing but fiyah as DJ Smoky sets things off proper at FREE UP for one night only. Join us at Republic (958 Granville Street) March 14th, to witness the fitness. FREE UP WEDNESDAYS Relaunches at REPUBLIC - Feb 1st, 2012

After 4 years of doing FREE UP WEDNESDAYS at Shine Night Club, the last FREE UP at Shine went down January 11th. A few different reasons factored in to us moving the night but we'd like to say thank you very much to the owners and staff at Shine who always made the club feel like home. We are sad to go but things change and we are happy to have a new residency at REPUBLIC!

Starting Wednesday, February 1st, and every Wednesday after that, FREE UP will be relaunching at Republic on the patio. The whole crew is back including DJ's Rexx, Hoppa, Chizzle and myself, Arems. Always dropping the best Dancehall, Soca and Reggae, you can expect a lot of special events and guests! February alone sees the grand opening party, followed by the Fiyah Fi Bun Dem Part 6 CD Release plus two guest appearances from local and over seas DJs! Republic also has some of the best drink specials on Wednesdays including $4 Heinekens. An added bonus is the main room at Republic features old school hip hop by DJ C-Stylez and special guests for Down By Law.

Free Up Two Year Anniversary at Shine Nov 3, 2010

Dancehall night at Shine has been THEE night for fans of Jamaican music for over 9 years. As the night formerly known as Bruk Out began to dwindle in numbers a few years ago a new energy was brought to the night by Loud Entertainment and it's unstoppable line up of residents for the night. For two years now DJs Rexx, Hoppa, Chizzle and Arems have been nicing up the dance with big chunes and many a dubplate. Free Up is the only night you'll see big DJs from across the globe rolling thru to bless the dance floor and regular dub fi dub mini sound clashes between Vancouver's various Sound crews. Make sure you're there this Wednesday as we celebrate two years of pure FIYAAH with special guest sets from DJ Grafta and the Faction's own DJ Tanner. FREE UP WEDNESDAYS is proud to present, straight from Jamaica, Leftside aka Dr. Evil this Wednesday October 6th inside Shine Night Club with special guest Max Glazer of Federation Sound out of NYC. You may be familiar with Leftside's tracks but many people don't know that he's a sick producer and responsible for many of the biggest riddims out today. Make sure to roll thru cuz tickets are only $15 dollars in advance and $20 at the door. Big ups to Illi of Grind House Sound for the dope video.

FIYAH FI BUN DEM PART 4 - Best of 2009 - Release Party

FINALLY! The mixtape that i've been putting together for months now is DONE and being pressed up as we speak. 80 minutes of 2009's best dancehall music featuring 13 Faction Dubplates by the likes of Vybz Kartel, Buju Banton, Mr. Vegas, Mavado, Assassin, Beenie Man and others amongst the 80 tracks of strictly BOOM chunes! The CDs will be ready this Wednesday just in time for the CD release party at Free Up Wednesdays inside Shine Night Club. We'll be giving away 100 copies and it'll be the only place to get the cd for a little while until we post it right here (or you'll be able to cop one of us or at your favourite mixtape retailer).
