Louie Rankin - Typewriter Faction Dubplate (Video)

Louie Rankin, dancehall legend and actor in such movies as Belly and Shottas, recently rolled through Vancouver to host an event and we caught up with him at his hotel for a dubplate session. He voiced a couple dubs for us but here is his biggest chune - "Typewriter" pon di Punany Riddim. MURDA ON A BOMBACLAAT FI FUN!

Faction Sound Quebec Tour - Day 3 - August 29, 2010

After a quick trip to Gatineau and Ottawa, we're back in Montreal for the last night of this tour and the one spot we've been close to playing so many times - but never have. The Goon Tribe, DJ's Kid, Goldenchild, Jemz and MC Chops, have been holding down Tokyo Bar Sundays for almost 10 years. The night is legendary in Montreal and known Canada wide as the spot to be on a Sunday to hear dope hip hop and a lil dancehall too. We've been looking forward to tearing this night down for so long...and that's what we about to go do! Stay tuned for a Recap.

Faction Sound Quebec Tour - Day 2 - August 28, 2010

Things got a lil hectic and we didn't get a chance to post about Day 2 of the tour before it actually went down...so here's a recap. Although we'd played in Ottawa many a time, the city jus across the river was new territory to us. Gatineau lies only a 5 minute drive away from Ottawa but is in Quebec and is a mainly French speaking town. Our long time homey Kid SL had been holding down Pure for over a year now and from all his tweets and stories about the night, we were excited to finally play there. We arrived to find a well dressed crowd going awwfff to Kid SL's uptempo set and when we switched over we kept the vibe on the same level with non stop fist pumpers mixed in with some hip hop and dancehall. The large underground club stayed packed till the end of the night and we enjoyed every last minute of it. Big shouts to Pure and Kid SL for having us through...look for video from the night to be posted soon.

Faction Sound Quebec Tour - Day 1 - August 27 2010

It's been a minute since the Faction has been able to tour with more than just one member rolling out but DJ's Tanner and Arems finally put it together in a place we've never toured...Quebec! With all the spots we've been able to play in Canada and all over the world, Quebec was always somehow out of reach. This week our Quebec tour starts in Montreal and Sherbrooke on Friday August 27th. DJ Tanner will be joining Get Nice at Blizzarts in Montreal with DJ's Maysr and Guilty while DJ Arems link with DJ Blast in Sherbooke at Living Room. The tour takes us to Gatineau and back to Montreal for one last gig. Stay tuned for more info on the rest of the tour.

NO PANTS PARTY!!! - August 3rd in Whistler

It's the party you've all been waiting for...or at least we have. We've been wanting to throw one of these for years and FINALLY it's come to fruition. Celebration Tuesdays at the Savage Beagle is our longest running residency coming up on 10 years now. The Faction has been tearing it down for almost a decade and we're happy to be able to now do a no pants party and set it awwwf while being in our most comfortable state. Fuck pants. Get Up Get Down 6 Year Anniversary at Shine, July 30th

Tonight is wanna those nights you'll regret you missed if you don't come through. Get Up Get Down has been delivering true school hip hop on a Friday for 6 years with the help of the one and only Needle Kineval and Carlo of Tigerstone. The night has hosted almost every dope DJ in North America and continues to bring the world's best DJs to Vancouver. Tonight catch residents Arems and Seko in the main room with TEAM CANADA and Freaky P on the Mic. U-tern and Nina Mendoza will be running the backroom. We start extra early at 9:30pm with an open bar and later on the Grill will be in full effect with Tanner aka the Bird Man cooking up his world famous chicken. Caribbean Days Festival Afterparty at Shine - Last Lap! Sunday July 24th

This weekend is the perfect time to head to the Caribbean Days Festival in North Van and get your whine on. If you've never been - you've been missing out big time. With all this hot weather we've been having you'd be a moron not to check it out. Tons of good food, beer gardens, performances and goods for sale plus great people watching. The official after party goes down at Shine Sunday night at Showoff Sundays for the Last Lap. The front room will be all dancehall and soca with DJ's Rexx, Wet Me Down Sound and Grindhouse Sound plus of course Faction Sound as well. DJ Tanner in Prince George Re-Cap

Last Saturday, July 17th, saw DJ Tanner destroying the Generator Cabaret in Prince George. Having never played there before, Tanner was unsure of what to expect but was happy to arrive to a packed house with party people ready to tear it down. Big shouts to DJ AK from Prince George for hosting and playing the night as well. We hope to be back up there again soon.

Stone Love Sound w/ Faction Sound plus Vancity's best July 9th, 2010

Tonight, at the Hungarian Community Hall, history will be made as every big Sound in Vancouver joins the world famous Stone Love for a sell off Dance not to be missed. If you like Dancehall music - make sure to be there. The party starts at 10pm and will most likely go all night so if you already have plans, make sure to stop by afterwards.

When you hear a DJ use the "air horn" sound effect in their set - it traces back to Stone Love - the first crew to ever use the sound. Here's a lil history on Stone Love if you are unfamiliar with the name:

There are over 200 sound systems in Jamaica to date, but when the question is asked as to which is the champion and reigning king of them all, without hesitation the response is ‘Stone Love’. Stone Love made their entry into the dancehall business in 1972 and for the past 28 years it has been the sound systems with he most potent and magnetic force to pull crowds and ‘cork’ any dancehall. The name Stone Love has become an international household name and it is the most sought after sound system today. Record producers, singers and Djs will do anything to hear tunes being played on the set. The dancehall massive will follow the sound to wherever end of the earth it goes to listen to the voices of their favourite entertainment idols.
