New Faction Sound Crew Member - IRON LYON

I'm not sure why it took us so long to announce our new Faction Sound Crew member Iron Lyon but it's definitely over due. Many of you have noticed his name mentioned in our dubplates and some of you have gotten the chance to meet him. We've been linking up with Iron Lyon for over a year now and put him down with the team this past summer. Iron Lyon is an accomplished DJ and MC with many residencies in New York City and a brand new EP out on Fat Beats Records. We first met in New York through our mutual homie DJ Theory and collaborated on a few gigs in Brooklyn last year. Since then Iron Lyon has come through Vancouver and Toronto and is poised to make another pass through Vancity in November. Here's a rundown of his bio:

Iron Lyon Bio

Rocking the turntables since he was 14, Iron Lyon has produced numerous mixtapes, toured Japan as well as the U.S. & found his home in NYC for the last decade where he has become a well-known mixtape & club DJ. Lyon combines his roots in turntablism, his natural party rocking skills & his knack for reading a crowd spinning a diverse blend of hip hop, reggae, r & b, classics, electro and more. Recently Iron Lyon has DJ’d alongside the likes of DJ Premier, Questlove, Q-Tip, Funkmaster Flex, Kid Capri, Biz Markie and many more at large venues including Santos, Brooklyn Bowl & his current residency Greenhouse. Iron Lyon also has recorded & released two full-length albums featuring artists like Sean Price, Craig G, C-Rayz Walz, Ed O.G. & Slim Kid Tre where he showcases his lyrical abilities as well as his scratching skills. In addition, Lyon works in the South Bronx as a teacher for an after school program called Urban Art Beat where students learn to write, record & perform as well as music production & dance. Whether it’s from behind the turntables, on the microphone or in the classroom, Iron Lyon is dedicated to the art form, to the people & to the music.

Elephant Man Faction Dubplate Video Plus Vancouver Concert Footage

Elephant Man came through Vancouver with surprise guest Bramma and tore down a show October 3rd at Caprice. Some video of that show is viewable below. Faction Sound Crew linked up with them a few days later for a HUGE dubplate session. We asked for "Too Bad Mind" but the riddim wasn't available so we went for Haters Wanna War on the Buzz riddim. Watch what Ele does on the second verse! A BIG CHUNE!

Remembrance Day Party at Fortune with Dj Tanner and Dj Psychology

Wed November 10 at Fortune Sound Club is gonna be a big night everybody!! Not only is the next day a holiday and is Dj Tanner gonna be ripping the decks but the hommie Dj Psychology repping MTL will be tearing it down as well. OH, and there is also 350 confirmed guests for the Lotus Awards afterparty. Leftside aka Dr. Evil w/ Federation Sound's Max Glazer at FREE UP October 6th

FREE UP WEDNESDAYS is proud to present, straight from Jamaica, Leftside aka Dr. Evil this Wednesday October 6th inside Shine Night Club with special guest Max Glazer of Federation Sound out of NYC. You may be familiar with Leftside's tracks but many people don't know that he's a sick producer and responsible for many of the biggest riddims out today. Make sure to roll thru cuz tickets are only $15 dollars in advance and $20 at the door. Big ups to Illi of Grind House Sound for the dope video.

Louie Rankin - Typewriter Faction Dubplate (Video)

Louie Rankin, dancehall legend and actor in such movies as Belly and Shottas, recently rolled through Vancouver to host an event and we caught up with him at his hotel for a dubplate session. He voiced a couple dubs for us but here is his biggest chune - "Typewriter" pon di Punany Riddim. MURDA ON A BOMBACLAAT FI FUN!

Faction Sound Quebec Tour - Day 3 - August 29, 2010

After a quick trip to Gatineau and Ottawa, we're back in Montreal for the last night of this tour and the one spot we've been close to playing so many times - but never have. The Goon Tribe, DJ's Kid, Goldenchild, Jemz and MC Chops, have been holding down Tokyo Bar Sundays for almost 10 years. The night is legendary in Montreal and known Canada wide as the spot to be on a Sunday to hear dope hip hop and a lil dancehall too. We've been looking forward to tearing this night down for so long...and that's what we about to go do! Stay tuned for a Recap.

Faction Sound Quebec Tour - Day 2 - August 28, 2010

Things got a lil hectic and we didn't get a chance to post about Day 2 of the tour before it actually went down...so here's a recap. Although we'd played in Ottawa many a time, the city jus across the river was new territory to us. Gatineau lies only a 5 minute drive away from Ottawa but is in Quebec and is a mainly French speaking town. Our long time homey Kid SL had been holding down Pure for over a year now and from all his tweets and stories about the night, we were excited to finally play there. We arrived to find a well dressed crowd going awwfff to Kid SL's uptempo set and when we switched over we kept the vibe on the same level with non stop fist pumpers mixed in with some hip hop and dancehall. The large underground club stayed packed till the end of the night and we enjoyed every last minute of it. Big shouts to Pure and Kid SL for having us through...look for video from the night to be posted soon.

Faction Sound Quebec Tour - Day 1 - August 27 2010

It's been a minute since the Faction has been able to tour with more than just one member rolling out but DJ's Tanner and Arems finally put it together in a place we've never toured...Quebec! With all the spots we've been able to play in Canada and all over the world, Quebec was always somehow out of reach. This week our Quebec tour starts in Montreal and Sherbrooke on Friday August 27th. DJ Tanner will be joining Get Nice at Blizzarts in Montreal with DJ's Maysr and Guilty while DJ Arems link with DJ Blast in Sherbooke at Living Room. The tour takes us to Gatineau and back to Montreal for one last gig. Stay tuned for more info on the rest of the tour.

Dj Tanner @ Happy Ending Fridays!!

This Friday August 6th at FORTUNE Dj Tanner, Hedspin & P-Luv will rep their respective crews - Faction ,Eh Team & Boyscouts - to the fullest at Happy Ending Fridays!! This night will be tested to the limit as these 3 locals blast the walls down playing unforgettable classics, edits and remixes. Also playing in the Livestock Room is Genie & My!Gay!Husband! for Culture Club.

NO PANTS PARTY!!! - August 3rd in Whistler

It's the party you've all been waiting for...or at least we have. We've been wanting to throw one of these for years and FINALLY it's come to fruition. Celebration Tuesdays at the Savage Beagle is our longest running residency coming up on 10 years now. The Faction has been tearing it down for almost a decade and we're happy to be able to now do a no pants party and set it awwwf while being in our most comfortable state. Fuck pants. Lookout for the PANTS OFF DANCE OFF as well!!! If you've ever wanted to roll up to Whistler and check out what we do up there...this would be the night. So Prime.

August 1st Long Weekend - Faction Events

Long Weekends are always kinda slow in general until Sunday rolls around and EVERYONE goes ape shit! This BC Day Long Weekend catch DJ Tanner at the Savage Beagle in Whistler and yours truely (DJ Arems) alongside the Goodfellas (Smooth and Friktion) inside Joseph Richards in Vancouver. Both spots will be rammed with Tanner dropping every Party tune under the sun and myself and the goodfellas droppin all the ill hip hop, RnB and dancehall. Get Up Get Down 6 Year Anniversary at Shine, July 30th

Tonight is wanna those nights you'll regret you missed if you don't come through. Get Up Get Down has been delivering true school hip hop on a Friday for 6 years with the help of the one and only Needle Kineval and Carlo of Tigerstone. The night has hosted almost every dope DJ in North America and continues to bring the world's best DJs to Vancouver. Tonight catch residents Arems and Seko in the main room with TEAM CANADA and Freaky P on the Mic. U-tern and Nina Mendoza will be running the backroom. We start extra early at 9:30pm with an open bar and later on the Grill will be in full effect with Tanner aka the Bird Man cooking up his world famous chicken.
