After Fever closed and Flava Fridays came to an end, I found myself chillin on Fridays with the occasional one off here and there. It was weird... but finally the month long Friday night hiatus has come to an end as we're pleased to announce the introduction of PAID IN FULL Fridays. Every Friday at Post Modern (7 Alexander Street) catch resident DJs Rexx, Icy Touch and myself, Arems, droppin strictly the illest Hip Hop, Dancehall, R&B plus a dash of Old School. Each March, Winter Music Conference brings what feels like a majority of the world’s DJs to Miami but amongst all the house, trance and occasional hip-hop going on, dancehall always seems to get left out of the mix. To remedy the situation, this year LargeUp is bringing New York City’s best dancehall party, Rice and Peas, to Ricochet in Miami during WMC. Even better, the event, on Wed. March 21, doubles as a release party for Mr. Vegas’ Sweet Jamaica LP, an easy frontrunner for the year’s best reggae/dancehall album in our collective opinion.
In addition to a live performance from Vegas and sets from the Rice and Peas crew— DJ Gravy, Max Glazer, Micro Don and Orijahnal Vibez—we’ve put together a heavyweight DJ lineup that includes Jillionaire (Major Lazer/Feel Up), Walshy Fire (Major Lazer/Black Chiney), Dre Skull (Mixpak), Iron Lyon (Faction Sound), DJ A-Train and G Brown. Just as Rice and Peas brings the authentic vibes of an outer-borough bashment into a centrally located Downtown setting in New York, allowing for a unique mixture of demographics you just don’t get anywhere else, expect something similar at Ricochet, a brand-new spot located in Miami’s Midtown area. RAP was so PAKD last month that a lot of you didn't get in. We apologize if that was case. Please come earlier to avoid dissapointment! If you don't know about RAP yet then what the fuck dood??? DJ Rhek and myself Arems play golden era bangers all night and there's zero bullshit. Douche bags don't get in and it's only 6 bux at the door. Plus Calabash serves up some mean Caribbean cuisine and dope drinks as well. Roll through and get down to good music with good people.
I started DJing at Fever on Fridays over 6 years ago alongside Rexx for Flava Fridays. After a lil while i left to do Get Up Get Down but returned 4 years later to pick up where we left off. As more and more clubs lean towards straight pop anthems and top 40 Dance Hits, Flava Fridays kept it gully with a straight Hip Hop and Dancehall vibe. Unfortunately, in 2 weeks, Fever will close it's doors forever and renovations will take place to transform it into Status Night Club which will feature mainly House music. Although the last Flava Friday EVER is February 10th, I won't be there so this Friday Feb 3rd come thru as DJ Physik and I tear it down one last time. Look for brand new BIG TINGS come March.
After 4 years of doing FREE UP WEDNESDAYS at Shine Night Club, the last FREE UP at Shine went down January 11th. A few different reasons factored in to us moving the night but we'd like to say thank you very much to the owners and staff at Shine who always made the club feel like home. We are sad to go but things change and we are happy to have a new residency at REPUBLIC!
